Wood Yew Waste "Saving you time, money & our plantes resources

About Us

Wood Yew Waste was set up in January 1999 to recycle the large amount of wood that was previously being landfilled, with the primary aim of supplying wood chip to the panel board industry.

Working in partnership with Plymouth City Council, we set up our operation at Chelson Meadow Landfill Site to recycle the wood being disposed of at the council's civic amenity area and also the waste wood that was being landfilled by local industry.

From an initial turnover of under 50 tonnes of wood per week, we have steadily increased the volume of wood we recycle to almost 1000 tonnes per week which, if it was not recycled, would end up in local landfill sites.

Since starting in Plymouth we have expanded over the years with large investment in the most modern plant and equipment. With the closing of Chelson Meadow we now operate our Plymouth site from Lee Mill and have our main recycling facility in Greendale Business Park near Exeter. This has been complemented with a site at St.Dennis, Cornwall so we now cover the whole of Devon & Cornwall and can provide a service to our customers no matter where they are based.

As well as recycling all types of wood we have also started recycling gypsum which can then be used by farmers to improve their soil and for land reinstatement.

We supply most of our wood chip to Norbord of South Molton, who are one of the leading chip board manufacturers in Europe and also produce many flat pack furniture items that are retailed in the high street by some of the large DIY chains.  The wood chip not used by Norbord is used for either cattle or poultry bedding, absorbent bio-compound or biomass fuel so everything we receive is recycled into a usable product.

Wood is delivered to us for recycling from an area that covers Lands End in Cornwall to Bridgewater in Somerset. We provide a cost effective way of recycling all post consumer waste wood and plasterboard in an environmentally sensitive manner.
