Wood Yew Waste was set up in January 1999 to recycle the large amount of wood that was previously being landfilled, with the primary aim of supplying wood chip to the panel board industry.
Working in partnership with Plymouth City Council, we set up our operation at Chelson Meadow Landfill Site to recycle the wood being disposed of at the council's civic amenity area and also the waste wood that was being landfilled by local industry.
From an initial turnover of under 50 tonnes of wood per week, we have steadily increased the volume of wood we recycle to almost 500 tonnes per week which, if it was not recycled, would end up in local landfill sites.
We supply most of our wood chip to Norbord of South Molton, who are one of the leading chip board manufacturers and also produce many flat pack furniture items that are retailed in the high street by some of the large DIY chains.
We have invested over a million pounds in 2006/07 to ensure that we have the latest most efficient plant and equipment along with expanding our site facilities to cope with the future recycling needs of the south west.
Wood is delivered to us for recycling from an area that covers Lands End in Cornwall to Bridgewater in Somerset. We provide a cost effective way of recycling all post consumer waste wood in an environmentally sensitive manner.
